Moonshine a.k.a. white lightening, hooch, mountain dew, or white whiskey, is a 190-proof, homemade, un-aged, and colorless spirit made of corn meal, yeast, sugar, water, and malt. Moonshine is commonly stored in mason jars with the infamous “XXX” logo stamped across the front.
Produced in the backwoods of the Appalachian mountains in direct defiance of the alcohol tax imposed by the federal government after the Revolutionary War. Moonshine became a way of survival for poor farmers struggling with crops and a fueled a massive black market trade during the Prohibition era of the 1930’s.
At the Myth & Moonshine Tavern we honor the rebellious spirit of early distillers with our cocktails and food. Thanks to folks like Boggs, Hedrick, Smith, and Popcorn Sutton, micro-distilleries and moonshine are now legal across the country.
The Myth & Moonshine Tavern is the brainchild of Shine, LLC owner Shanna Cooper and Jake Millisock. We are proud to serve you the newly legalized modern take on Moonshine while paying tribute to the fiercely independent and rebellious spirit of the original Appalachian distillers.
Our southern influenced American tavern is comfortably casual and historical with creative and “outside of the box” flavors. Our menu was carefully crafted by our acclaimed and award winning cooking staff, and we are proud to showcase the freshest locally-sourced ingredients as a part of each meal.
We seek to emphasize and express our individuality with each dish while keeping the focus on classic comfort food, delicious cocktails, and a carefree atmosphere.
